Tackling the situation and making it safe

We unearth (reveal) the detected objects with bomb-proof equipment. This exposes the object for identification by our explosives experts. If the object is found to be unexploded ordnance or munitions, we will take immediate steps to make the area safe. The methods we use to achieve this depend on how safely the explosives can be moved.

If the explosives can be moved, they will be transferred to our provisional explosives storage facility until inspection by the Dutch Ministry of Defence’s ordnance disposal unit (EODD). If the explosives cannot be moved, our Senior Explosives Specialist will take immediate steps and inform the EODD.
Actual disposal of explosives is still the job of the EODD.
