Corporate social responsibility

Our commitment to corporate social responsibility can be seen in everything we do: our projects, how we deal with people, our vessels and the technology we use. We abide by the law and respect the legislation and customs of the countries in which we work. An example of this is our three Ps (people, planet and profit) covenant.

People
We treat our people with respect, and our terms and conditions of employment are in line with those elsewhere in the market. The conditions under which our employees work meet strict safety standards and we are VCA and ISM certified. Non-permanent staff are treated with the same degree of respect, and they too are subject to our strict safety regime. We also devote our attention to employee training, and we are certified to train workers to various standards. We notify people directly affected by our projects on the work to be carried out and we try to keep the inconvenience they may experience to a minimum. Finally, projects in developing areas are accompanied by a focus on educating locals to work on the project while it is being carried out and, once it is finished, to use the finished product and keep it in working order.

Planet
During the design, preparation, work and maintenance phases of our projects we try, where possible, to use renewable materials. During this sort of work, we also consider possible sustainable technologies and alternative/innovative products and working techniques. For instance, we devised the geocontainer: a sustainable alternative for the use of stone. We also assess the impact our projects will have on the environment, adding extras such as fish ladders in weirs and shallow water and side channels of rivers and lakes, creating natural landscapes with spawning grounds.

Profit
Our company activities have a benefit for the countries in which we work. 'Wet' infrastructure is essential not only for safety when waters are high, but also for prosperity in general, as it provides the opportunity for goods transportation on water.
