• Dredging works at Normandy 2018-2022

  • Dredging and beach nourishment

Van den Herik is working with its French subsidiary Eco Systèmes de Dragage on the multi-year maintenance of various seaports in Normandy, France.

The multi-year maintenance includes dredging the following seaports in France: Dieppe, Ouistereham, Fécoamp, Deauville-Trouville, Port-en-Bessinn-Huipain, Grandcamp-Maisly and Le Tréport. The dredging of the ports is executed by means of the TSHD Christophorus, crane pontoon Herik 70 and a self-propelled unloader.

    Maintenance seaports essential

The dredging of the seaports is essential to keep the ports accessible. Seaports are becoming more shallow as a result of the settlement of sand and sludge. The presence of too much sand and sludge also reduces the waterflow and in some cases leads to flooding. Keeping the sea port at depth is, in addition to economic factors, essential for the safety of the environment.

    Challenging project area

Earlier, between 2010 and 2017, Van den Herik has carried out the same maintenance works in collaboration with its subsidiary Eco Systèmes de Dragage and has proven to be able to work within this challenging area. The works must be carried out in these busy ports without disrupting the existing port activities. In addition to this, there are strong tidal fluctuations which call for tight logistical planning.

The project is being commissioned by:

    • Département de la Seine-Maritime
    • CCI Littoral Hauts-de-France
    • Syndicat Mixte du Port de Dieppe
    • Département du Calvados
    • Ports Normands Associés
